Collaboration and agreements

Within the framework of the Corporate Biodiversity Policy and Management Plan, PETROPERÚ has signed agreements with the following specialized institutions:

SERNANP

The Ministry of the Environment, through the National Service of Natural Areas Protected by the State (SERNANP) has been executing actions aimed at investigation, monitoring and granting of rights; identifying opportunities to carry out studies on the use of resources, as well as in the implementation of protocols for management species or conservation objects.

It is in this line that SERNANP and our company identified common lines of action and the convenience of working together, enhancing human and economic resources, so in July 2019 they signed a Framework Agreement for Inter-institutional Cooperation, which will allow defining priority areas for conservation. and sustainable use of biodiversity, in such a way that the sectors, the Company, the academy and researchers can make decisions about the planning and management of the study areas.

Amazon Forever

In July 2019, PETROPERÚ and the NGO Amazon Forever signed an inter-institutional cooperation agreement to join forces in the face of the problem of the loss of forests near and accessible to the city of Iquitos, which have been gradually degrading.

It is important that people living in the region, which is home to one of the seven natural wonders of the world, interact and create a sense of protection with the remaining forest. For this to happen, it is vital that children have the opportunity to know and appreciate the Amazon, so that they become adults fully identified with the forest.

The objective of the agreement between PETROPERÚ and Amazon Forever is to join efforts in actions of mutual interest, in research issues for environmental education, ecotourism, agroforestry activities, forest conservation, formulation of cooperation projects and capacity building, among others; in order to protect and conserve the environment in the Amazon.

SERFOR

The Ministry of Agriculture, through the National Forest and Wildlife Service (SERFOR), has been executing actions aimed at managing and promoting the sustainability and competitiveness of the forestry and wildlife sector.

It is along these lines that SERFOR and PETROPERÚ identified common lines of action and the convenience of working together to enhance the human and economic resources that both entities have. Thus, in November 2020, an Inter-institutional Cooperation Agreement was signed to join forces and develop joint strategies of mutual interest, with the purpose of executing actions for the restoration of forest ecosystems and other ecosystems of wild vegetation.

Collaboration Agreement

Smithsonian Institution

The Smithsonian Institution is a non-profit entity, owned by the United States Government, that – through the Center for Conservation and Sustainability (CCS) of the Institute of Conservation Biology – works with partners to develop sustainable infrastructure and align development with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

In October 2020, PETROPERÚ and the Smithsonian Institute signed a Collaboration Agreement, with the purpose of monitoring Terrestrial (ONP) and Marine (NRT) Biodiversity and executing the Scenario Planning Study.

The activities of the components are within the framework of PETROPERÚ‘s corporate biodiversity management strategy and plan. In the first phase, the state company and the Smithsonian Institute agree to identify the environmental and conservation challenges facing the Company and will develop plans and programs to be implemented to address the challenges of these three components.

The results of this phase will serve to guide the establishment of monitoring programs that will use the acquired capacities for the management of biodiversity, conserving biological diversity and improving the way in which PETROPERÚ does its business.
